Reflecting back on Bloodlines
6th July 2026

Tomorrow, I'll be posting the first chapter (a prologue) of my sequel to my fanfiction, Bloodlines.
It's actually a little terrifying; I was thinking I would take a longer break before starting any large writing projects again, but in the days following posting Bloodlines' final chapter, the exhaustion I felt waned off and I felt really free to write again without thinking about posting. Truth be told, posting new chapters was both excited and daunting. It was always, 'What will readers think of this?' and 'Will this be the chapter that they quit reading on?'. Anxiety has always been something I've struggled with, and I guess posting two or more chapters a week was making it worse.

Despite all that, I really, really loved writing Bloodlines. I remember feeling giddy writing some chapters, and feeling insanely creative with what I could next. I stayed up way too late on many nights writing, and by the beginning of 2026, I was feeling very worn out.
For the sequel, I will be trying to pace myself better with weekly updates, and more time spent doing other things than just writing (although I won't deny myself chasing a creative high should it arise).

Bloodlines itself was the fic I really wanted to write out of everything I've written to date. It has so many elements and influences that I adore, and I really wanted something I could return to one day and read, knowing that I wrote it for myself more than anything.
I'll post more tomorrow on what the sequel is about. Bloodlines is, and shall remain dear to me, and I really need to return to bookbinding it before long!
